AOL's MediaGlow has announced the availability of a free Pixcetera application in the App Store. By allowing users to experience photography in a variety of categories, including news, celebrities, lifestyle and nature, right on their device, the app aims to replicate the functionality of the Pixcetera.com site. AOL has currently more than 25 client and Web applications available for iPhone users.

MediaGlow, AOL’s publishing business unit formed in early 2009, centralizes AOL’s programming efforts, including AOL.com, AOL’s content verticals and commerce and marketplace channels, dozens of niche sites, and state-of-the-art studios in Los Angeles and New York City. The availability of the Pixcetera app closely follows the successful launch of the popular AOL DailyFinance app on the App Store.

The DailyFinance app is a free, full-service financial portal for iPhone and iPod touch with real-time stock quotes, the ability to create, manage and track multiple portfolios that are synchronized with the AOL web-based portfolio product, and more.

By releasing the Pixcetera iPhone app, the company is proud to note key features including high-quality, full-screen images in either portrait or landscape, the ability to navigate through thousands of photos with the swipe of a finger, photo sharing, five daily featured galleries, plus thousands of galleries in more than 20 categories.

“We're excited to be using original MediaGlow content to develop compelling iPhone and iPod touch apps focused on the topics users are most passionate about,” Bill Wilson, president of MediaGlow, said. “Pixcetera and our DailyFinance app are great examples of how we are able to develop applications that expand the interactive and engaging experiences we bring to users on their desktops onto their mobile devices.”

In other AOL news, the global Internet service and media company also announced the development of a series of innovative iPhone and iPod touch applications scheduled for this year. Specifically designed to take advantage of the unique features of the Apple devices, the apps will use AOL’s huge content.

Those interested in acquiring the Pixcetera, DailyFinance, and other AOL applications for iPhone or iPod touch are encouraged to visit the App Store here.
