Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton and her newborn son with Prince William, the Duke of Cambridge, spent the night in hospital after birth. Hours ago, they were discharged and, upon exiting, offered members of the media a first look at the future King.

Below, embedded at the end of this article, is a video of Kate and William and their son leaving St Mary’s hospital in London, where she gave birth.

Not only did they stop for pictures, but they also offered a brief interview by taking some questions from the members of the press – the same members of the press who camped out outside the hospital weeks before the actual birth.

“It's been very emotional. Any parent will know what this feeling is like,” a smiling Kate told the media.

Prince William revealed that they had not yet picked a name. As we also reported on a previous occasion, the parents chose not to find out whether they were having a boy or a girl beforehand.

“He's a big boy, quite heavy. We're still working on a name. Well he has a good pair of lungs on him, that's for sure,” William said.

The Duke also acknowledged the fact that the baby had been expected a couple of weeks before the day he was born.

“I will remind him of his tardiness when he is older,” he joked.

“He’s got her looks thankfully,” the Duke also said, prompting an interruption from the Duchess that, “No, no, no I’m not sure about that.”

After the few minutes spent outside with the newborn, as tradition mandates, the royal couple went back inside and emerged ready for the departure.

Kate and the baby were sat in the back of a waiting car, with Prince William getting behind the wheel. Security cars followed.

The newborn royal baby is now third in line to the throne.
