Headed towards T-Mobile

A series of new photos that surfaced on the Web recently show us the supposed BlackBerry Onix device, which has been spotted in the wild before under the name of ‘Driftwood,’ and which is expected to come to T-Mobile's offering sometime in September. The new handset seems to resemble the BlackBerry Bold a lot, while also borrowing something from the Niagara / Tour device that should be launched during the ongoing year as well.

The handset has been previously reported to be heading towards AT&T, while the model that T-Mobile will launch comes with UMA. For what it's worth, the new BlackBerry Onyx seems to be a sleeker version of the 8900, and, besides the new pictures of the phone, we can also take a look at some of the goodies it should bring.

The specification list of the new mobile phone shows AWS 1700MHz + 2100MHz UMTS/HSDPA connectivity, along with a GPS receiver, WiFi capabilities, a display that can boast a 480 x 360 pixel resolution, as well as a 3.2-megapixel photo snapper that also includes auto focus. In addition, there will also be a full QWERTY keyboard and an optical trackpad, as well as a carbon fiber back battery cover.

As many of you might already know, T-Mobile has been reported to plan on releasing another BlackBerry device later this year, namely the affordable BlackBerry 8520, and the appearance of the new Onyx might suggest that there could be more such phones added to the carrier's lineup. At the same time, it seems that the new handset could be launched with T-Mobile as a 96XX-series (it could be launched as the BlackBerry 9600) device, and it might come with a rather attractive price tag as well, though there is no exact information on the cost it will come with. Stay tuned to learn more details as they emerge.
