SEGA reaches way down into gamers' pockets

Phantasy Star series fans will be able to enjoy a beta test over Xbox live of Phantasy Star Universe this weekend. This feature will be available to anyone who has an Xboox Live gold account.

According to SEGA, the Beta test period is expected to run from October 11 until October 18. Gamers who want to try the latest Phantasy Star Universe installment have to download the Beta from Xbox Marketplace. The download option will be available only on October 11 and 12, so hurry up!

According to some earlier rumors, Xbox owners who purchased the retail copy of Phantasy Star Universe were not required to pay the US$ 9.99 monthly fee as they already pay for Xbox Live. That rumor was denied by SEGA, who declared that no matter, everyone will have to pay the fee. However, US$ 9.99 is cheaper than fees for other games like Final Fantasy XI or World Of Warcraft, for which players have to pay US$ 14.99 per month.

Anyway, the game seems to have some interesting features like the Character Creation tool, that allows players to change the body shape and dimensions of their character as well as altering their hairstyle and color. They will also be allowed to tamper with the characters' facial structure and features. The My Room option enables players to create their own personal online space by adding items and elements from their adventures. In "My Room", players can craft new items and weapons that they can later on use in battle.

Excepting the many fees imposed by SEGA, this beta test seems like a good idea as players can spot any bugs in the game and report them.
