Following yesterday's leaked image, today the Japanese manufacturer officially announced the new Pentax-08 Wide Zoom lens.

Made mostly from aluminum, with an overall length of approximately 38mm / 1.5 inches and weighing only 75g / 2.64oz, the new Pentax-08 Wide Zoom lens is the world's smallest and lightest ultra-wide-angle zoom lens.

Featuring 10 elements in 8 groups, the new lens also comes with a DSA (Dual Super Aspherical) element, two ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass elements, as well as a Super-low-dispersion element that translates into a clear, high-resolution image with little or no chromatic aberrations and edge-to-edge image sharpness.

Pentax-08 Wide Zoom comes with a built-in lens shutter equipped with an ND (neutral density) filter and an iris diaphragm, complemented by an SP (Super Protect) coating for the front element that will keep it free of dust and stains.

The lens has a 17.5 to 27mm (35mm-equivalent) focal range and a maximum aperture of f/3.7-f/4.0. It can focus as close as 0.25m / 0.82ft and it will be available this December at a price of $500 / €369.
