Video game developer BioWare has launched the 1.2.1 patch for their MMO Star Wars: The Old Republic, introducing a number of new fixes that the player community has been asking for and offering an official end of the Rakghoul Plague in-game event.

A number of abilities, like Takedown, Charged Burst, Snipe and Trickshot have received an increase of 5 percent in the damage they deal and bugs like the use of the Rocket Boost ability and the speeder problems linked to the Alderaan Civil War have been corrected.

The 1.2.1 patch has also removed all the elements of the Rakghoul Plague, which has proven to be one of the most interesting events for the Old Republic player community.

BioWare has been very quick with patches for its new MMO, considering that it has seen two major releases since the launch of the game in December 2011.

Support for an MMO is essential to its long-term success and BioWare has opened up a new studio in Ireland specifically to make sure that it could deliver quick fixes and changes for The Old Republic, in addition to the teams that are working on the game in other locations.

BioWare has admitted that concurrent players numbers have been declining for the Star Wars MMO but insists that there’s no fall when it comes to the overall subscription levels.

The Rakghoul Plague was designed to offer interesting choices and gameplay for subscribers and BioWare plans to deliver more similar events during the following months.

The Old Republic allows players to choose from eight character classes and explore an universe that is set deep in the history of the Star Wars universe, when the Sith and Jedi are engaged in a shadowy, undeclared war.

At least another major gameplay change for The Old Republic is planned to arrive during summer 2012.
