Only for European users

From the list containing many smartphones that are dumping Windows Mobile 5 for the latest version of the operation system, Palm Treo 750 is among the latest. It's a natural evolution, as producers are trying to keep their devices fresh and avoid leaving outdated software to make them lose important points against competitors.

It's great news that Palm Treo 750 will receive such an important upgrade, but it's quite disappointing to see that it is not fully functional. It was probably too good to be true, anyway. The new Windows Mobile 6 upgrade that Palm is offering actually holds a major drawback that will probably make many people think twice before they install it.

The latest version of this operating system does not support the Blackberry Connect service. This means that users will no longer be able to send and receive RIM-based emails. One more thing, there is no chance of going back to the fifth version of the software, which makes it important to take deep consideration whether this upgrade is worth it and that there will be no second thoughts afterwards.

It does not sound as a too important drawback, although bringing an imperfect software out on the market has been a daring decision from RIM. Windows Mobile 6 should bring improved Mobile Office Applications and support for HTML-formatted e-mail messages. Moreover, the device should also respond better to commands and run more smoothly.

The upgrade to Windows Mobile 6 is available only for the European market, which makes AT&T subscribers in the US wonder when they will have the chance of receiving one too. A solution for them is also expected to arrive in the near future from Palm.

The Treo 750 Windows Mobile 6 upgrade is available to customers in the UK, Ireland and Netherlands right away, with other European users expected to be added towards the end of September. The smartphone is available for purchase in these countries from Vodafone.
