Sunnyvale mobile phone maker Palm has just released a series of new software updates for the users of a Palm Pre or Palm Pixi mobile phone, and now we learn that the company plans to release even more updates in the near future. Following the just made available webOS 1.3.5.1 and webOS 1.3.5 firmware solutions for Pre and Pixi, webOS 1.4 is set to make an appearance into the wild as soon as next month, the latest reports around the Internet suggest.

According to the guys over at PreCentral, we should expect for the next version of Palm's webOS platform to come to users with a new feature that was long wanted and announced: Flash Player 10.1. However, Adobe is to provide only a beta flavor of the solution for the time being, with the final variant expected to land later during the ongoing year.

Palm's Pre smartphone has been spotted before running Flash 10.1, so it does not come too much as a surprise that webOS 1.4 will include the technology, especially since Adobe is set to soon make it available for other mobile operating systems too. However, the upcoming platform version should bring other features to the table as well, including video recording capabilities, better battery life, faster performance, and a wide range of other enhancements.

Palm has recently announced that the webOS platform is now opened for all developers out there interested in building applications for its devices, and the release of a new firmware update for its users in such a short period of time is another proof of its commitment to the user experience it can provide. More developers with access to its SDK, more applications built for its OS, hence a larger number of solutions included in the App Catalog.

For the time being, there are no details on when exactly webOS 1.4 starts being pushed to users' devices, but February is not that far in the future, and more should be unveiled in the near future. At the same time, no info on which Palm Pre and Palm Pixi users will benefit from the update surfaced but, with Verizon also having the handsets in its offering, all of them will probably enjoy it, though the release dates will differ depending on the carrier.
