Palm Eos delayed on purpose

According to the latest news on the Internet, the newly launched Palm Pre high-end mobile phone is expected to become available for purchase in Canada via Bell as soon as this month. It seems that a Bell customer service representative said in a recent conversation that the handset was expected to come to the carrier “within this month end.”

Although the date for the launch of the device in Canada was not specifically mentioned, the representative seems to have stated twice that the Palm Pre would come in June. As both Sprint and Palm seem to have only a limited number of devices in US, it comes as a great surprise that the handset should come to Bell in June, and the same might apply to a July release as well.

Although no exact details on the possible availability of the Palm Pre in Canada or on its price tag were unveiled, it looks like multiple sources state the same thing, namely that the phone should land with the carrier either in late June or at the beginning of July. Hopefully, the release of the handset in Canada won't see the same rumor mess as the one in the US did, since it was expected to come to the market via Sprint as soon as February, and the rumor mill went on until June.

In related news, we learn that the second mobile phone to come to the market running under the Pre's webOS platform, the Palm Eos (also known as Pixie), might be delayed on purpose until the beginning of next year. According to the news, Palm might want to see how the first webOS device performs on the market before launching the second one, while also being focused on keeping the inventories for the Pre at an acceptable level. One way or the other, official word on the Eos hasn't been dropped yet, but Palm might announce something in the near future, so stay tuned to learn the news.
