14 DAY TRIAL // According to the latest news on the Web, we might see Palm and Sprint getting ready to have the highly anticipated Pre on the market as soon as April 30. If the two companies are indeed so advanced with the preparations of the release of the handset, then that will make a lot of users rejoice at the idea that the powerful mobile phone will land in only a month's time.
As many of you might already know, the Palm Pre was rumored a few times before to be heading to the market at different dates, none of which proved true, with the most persistent of them being that the handset was to be launched on Sprint's airwaves as soon as March 15, which actually proved to be the release date of another Palm device meant for the carrier, namely Treo Pro.
This time around, it seems that it all started from a Twitter message posted by Logicomm Inc. CEO Jim Van, suggesting that the long expected Palm Pre device was to be released on April 30. While posts on Twitter might not be seen as good enough rumor sources, IntoMobile says that Jim Van seems to be in a position that would allow him to have info on said launch date.
According to the Twitter post, Jim Van has been testing the new Palm Pre for Sprint, and he “has been told” that the release date of the handset would be the aforementioned one. If this proves true, then many people will rejoice at the thought that Sprint will make the mobile phone available sooner than originally expected.
We should also note that the mobile phone carrier will have a lot to benefit from in case it manages to get the device out on the market before Apple launches the iPhone 3.0 OS in summer. Pre had a great advantage over the previously available iPhone 2.0 OS, yet a lot of the missing functionalities of the iPhone are to be included with the new release, and Palm Pre could really use a few months ahead to catch the attention.
Hopefully, this rumor proves true and the highly expected mobile phone will indeed launch on April 30, especially since it seems that Pre should sport a price tag of $299 on contract, at least this is what a non-Sprint source is reported to have said.
