The handset follows the same pattern as the iPhone did in 2007

The interest in Palm's upcoming mobile phone called Pre was quite leveraged when the company announced the handset at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas back in January, but it decreased in the following three weeks or so, only to remain steady ever since.

A recently unveiled study from Compete shows that the interest in Palm's Pre handset has been on the same line for the past two months or so, mainly due to the fact that a great deal of speculations regarding the possible release dates of the mobile phone have surfaced to the Web in the meantime.

In addition, the unique visitor trend seems to be very much the same as the one registered after the initial announcement of Apple's iPhone, made back in 2007, until the device was available for purchase on the market in June that year. Undoubtedly, Pre's numbers are lower than those seen by iPhone two years ago, yet we must also admit that the competition on the smartphone market has also changed a lot in the meantime, so the pattern similar to the iPhone seems in a way encouraging.

And since the next-to-come Palm handset is expected to be some sort of an iPhone killer, seeing more and more comparisons being made between the two devices does not come as a surprise. While the iPhone already proved itself a great success, Pre is still expected to come to the market, and afterwards to show what it is capable of. Palm is also reported to be working hard on delivering the device to users, though the company finds itself in a rather bad financial situation at the moment.

However, we should be able to see Pre marketed the way it was supposed to be, says Palm. The company's PR team is expected to start the offensive on the phone in the very near future, and some even wonder why no visible move has been made up until now.
