Woman drives car into Sprint store

The Palm Pre fever seems to have affected more than just one US customer during the past few days. While the first person to get in line in front of a Sprint store in order to be able to buy a Palm Pre as soon as it becomes available was spotted a few days ago, now we learn that the first person unable to wait any longer for the handset to be put on sale has made a move.

Although the Pre will become available for purchase today, an elderly woman drove her car into a Calumet Park cell phone store yesterday, as she was in a hurry to get one of her own and couldn't wait until today. Although the line was supposed to form outside the store, she smashed the front window of the store and stopped the car completely inside.

Fortunately, no one was hurt in the process, and while the driver only got a few scratches, the store suffered a bit more damage, as you can see in the video below, though it seems that everything will be back in order for the launch. One can only imagine what a surprise it was for employees Jesus Leal Jr. and Rich Kelly, who were inside the store at that moment and witnessed the event.

“It was a complete shock … they helped her out of the car and 30 seconds later police and fire dept got all here,” Kelly said. “The best way I can put it is when you’re watching a movie and you see a car go through a display, it’s everything in slow motion. You didn’t look, you just see glass shattered everywhere,” Leal said.

In related news, we learn that the first lines started to form in front of Sprint's stores, as there are some people waiting there since last night for the shops to open. Some images with the early line sitters can be seen over at PreCentral, via this link. There are only a few hours before they will be able to grab the Pre, so things are getting heated up. Stay tuned to learn more on this as soon as details become available.
