Miley Cyrus may be eager to grow up but the Parents’ Television Council, a non-profit TV watchdog, is none too happy about her latest attempt at doing so, the video for “Who Owns My Heart.”

The official video came out on Friday and, by Saturday morning, many voices online were already saying it might prove to be a bit too much for some.

As it turns out, it did precisely that: the PTC is now saying that it’s “unfortunate” Miley is in such a rush to break loose from her younger fanbase especially when it was those fans that made her into what she is today.

According to PTC president Tim Winters, Miley should be in no hurry to grow up, he says in a statement criticizing the pop star, informs the New York Daily News.

“It is unfortunate that she would participate in such a video like this one. Miley built her fame and fortune entirely on the backs of young girls, and it saddens us that she seems so eager to distance herself from that fan base so rapidly,” Winters says.

As we also informed you over the weekend, the video shows Miley in her underwear in some scenes and very short leather hotpants in others, with plenty of cleavage and leg on display.

She is only 17 and she still has millions of teens looking up to her because she’s not yet free of her “vanilla” Hannah Montana image, her critics say.

This is precisely what makes the “Who Owns My Heart” video so inappropriate: the fact that, even if she is growing up, she is forcing this new image on younger fans.

The PTC has the same problem with Britney Spears too, as we informed you a few days ago. Her appearance on a recent episode of “Glee” was disgraceful, the Council said.

“Perhaps most troubling is the deification of a troubled popstar into a symbol of empowerment and self-esteem,” the PTC said in a statement attacking Britney and “Glee” producers.

“Considering her stints in rehab, her very public breakdowns and her questionable parenting skills, there is absolutely no way Spears should be considered a role model,” the group further said.

“The producers of the show can spare us the old song-and-dance about fallen celebs turning their lives around,” the PTC added.
