Why disk space is an issue remains a mystery

More and more developers try to keep up with the times by developing next-gen titles. So does Rockstar, with their upcoming GTA IV for the PS3 and Xbox 360. Although the two consoles have about the same processing power, certain features are better with the PS3, while others are better with the 360, as Rockstar's Creative VP Dan Houser tells Official PlayStation Magazine UK.

His deepest thoughts concerned technical limitations, when developing GTA IV: "To be honest with you we haven't solved all those riddles yet" as I found posted on 1UP today. The PS3 was certainly in the question here: "both have enormous challenges ... [and] their own particular pleasures and pains."

It's true that while PS3 gamers are also the proud owners of a Blu-ray player and a big hard drive, the Xboxers tend to fall behind regarding these features. Even with the Xbox 360 Elite, disk space is just one problem solved. The Blu-ray issue I get: better quality GTA IV with the PS3, it's obvious. What I don't understand is something else:

What have the two consoles' hard drives and GTA IV got to do with each other? Why is disk space suddenly an issue here? What, GTA IV creates king-size saves? If you're a GTA fan and you want GTA IV more than anything in the whole wide world, even with the lower end 360's HDD it isn't a problem. 20 gigs is more than enough to store the game, its saves and then Gears of War 10 times over. And besides, you'd make some sacrifices for your favorite game anyway. Am I missing something here...?
