Jaffe is also considering founding his own studio one day

When Sony Santa Monica Studio Creative Director, David Jaffe sat down with folks over at GameTrailers.com, God of War creator made one of the most shocking statements, coming from a Sony game developer in regards to the PS3. When asked what exactly he would change in the PS3 to get the machine up on its feet, Jaffe replied: "I probably would have taken the Blu-ray out and sold it for less money." What? This is the first time I'm hearing that the console's Blu-ray player is a negative factor. Yeah sure, it's expensive just because of that but then what would the PS3 be without the Blu-ray player.

One benefit that Blu-ray technology brings is that if you have a big game with large scale maps, that game would probably fit on more than one or two discs, even compressed. With Blu-ray, Sony can fit any game on just one disc. Heck, even two or three games would fit. But, Jaffe isn't the "story driven" type of game developer, emphasizing gameplay: I want to do games that take 10-13 months; I want to do games that aren't always story-driven, that are more gameplay-driven," (like Calling all Cars) he said during an interview at GDC.

"I think it's a great idea and it's an idea that I've explored and will continue to explore. You never really know - Sony's been a great home for a long time and whether or not it's with an independent studio or staying within the walls of Sony, I always want to be able to contribute to Sony's [camp], but the specific way to get to that destination is under discussion right now. So whether or not that becomes a full fledged company or it becomes a more focused role within Sony, which is sort of all about these [smaller] games is sort of TBD at the moment." What Jaffe is saying here is that Sony might not be the only option for him, respectively for God of War. God of War on 360? Not yet, but it's very possible.

However, Jaffe doesn't like to be upset, even if he isn't all that happy with the fact that a PS3 title will use Blu-ray and only Blu-ray: "This is your life. It's the one you get, for the moment anyway, and it doesn't make sense to do things other than what makes you excited," Jaffe said. "For me now that I've gotten the 'big game' out of my system, this is what's in my system now." God of War creator also reckons he'll be founding his own studio one day (to get away from the Blu-ray perhaps).
