SouthPeak Games' Monster Madness: Extreme is a promising action arcade title for the PlayStation 3, scheduled for release in Spring this year. Extreme is set to become the co-op favorite for PS3 owners. Today, the publisher has released seven new screens depicting the game's characters and setting which should deliver a frenetic online experience altogether.

Monster Madness Extreme is SouthPeak Games' first PlayStation 3 title. It is more of an enhanced and updated version of SouthPeak's comedy-horror arcade shooter Monster Madness: Battle For Suburbia, released on PC and Xbox 360 last year.

As you can imagine, Monster Madness: Extreme takes after its predecessor using some of its best features already but also adds tons of new stuff like customisable character outfits with power-up properties, 4-player co-op either online or offline and 25 new co-op challenge missions. 18 story mode levels and the fully-featured 16-person online competitive multiplayer have also been added.

In case you didn't get your chance to have a go with Extreme's predecessor, Monster Madness: Battle For Suburbia sees a group of teenagers pitted against an onslaught of supernatural enemies in a typical slice of small-town American suburbia. Making good use of the Unreal Engine 3 for a top-down viewing perspective, Monster Madness' world is brought to life with advanced physics middleware from Ageia, making sure that the action is suitably dynamic, according to an older SouthPeak Games report.

"We're thrilled to be giving gamers a glimpse of Monster Madness: Extreme in action and as these screen shots show, we're putting everything we can into making Monster Madness: Extreme as wildly fun and frenetic as possible," said Melanie Mroz, CEO, SouthPeak Games. "It's also great to be entering the PS3 market - Monster Madness: Extreme is just the beginning for us."

Monster Madness Extreme will see its release on Sony's PlayStation 3 in Spring 2008. Don't forget to check out the screens below.
