It is official now and ready for download! PlayStation 3 Firmware Update 2.10 is now available for your console and, if you think it's not something worth getting (why would you think that, though?), take a better look at the change list.

Voice Changer

The Voice Changer feature has been added to voice / video chat. Using this feature, you can change the tone of a voice that is input from an audio device such as a microphone. High and low-pitched tones can each be adjusted to five preset levels. You can vary the tone when using voice / video chat under Friends.

Music

You can now select [Type 3] as an option under Settings > [Music Settings] > [Bitmapping]. This bitmapping process was developed specifically for the PS3TM system to enhance audio playback.

Video Player

DivX and VC-1 (WMV) have been added as codecs that can be played. Blu-ray Disc Profile 1.1 is now supported and [BD Data Utility] has been added.

Now, regarding the video player, it would be good to know that Sony doesn't encourage piracy, just like nobody should. This means that copyright-protected files or files that were encoded by using DivX 3.11 cannot be played, neither files that are 2GB or more.

To install this new update you will need 120Mb of free space on either the PS3 hard disk or on a removable storage media. It includes all features contained in previous versions. And it wasn't long ago since Eric Lempel, PlayStation Network director of operations, said: "We are looking at a number of enhancements related to accessing some of the XMB features during gameplay, including messaging your friends. While there's no timeline to announce at this point, we've heard loud and clear from consumers that in-game XMB access is one of the most requested PS3 enhancements." They moved pretty fast.
