They're changing everything from fighting skills to weapons

After seeing what Epic's Unreal Engine 3 can do, Ed Boon, Mortal Kombat series creator announced that MK8 will be using something similar and that the fighting game would see a significant change on all levels. Thus, speaking with CVG on the next MK game, Boon talked in detail about the changes occurring with the game. First of all, the new MK for the PS3 will be "a lot grittier, dirtier," built on totally new concepts: "It's going to be a fighting game, definitely, but after that anything can go."

He said: "We're not putting any restrictions like we HAVE to keep weapons or we HAVE to keep fighting styles and stuff like that... we're going to... try to introduce as many new characters as possible, new features, new stuff like that and take advantage of the amazing presentation, graphics that all of a sudden you can do, things that are a lot more real."

They're taking out weapons (for good) and the system governing fighting styles for each player, which brings the MK series to an end if you ask me. Not that it's a bad thing that they want to try out new stuff, but it was fine the way it was. (except Deception which is different than the other MK titles in many ways).Who knows, maybe it'll be better. That doesn't mean that we have to give up on older titles in the series.

Boon is also considering the SIXAXIS' motion sensibility which I'm skeptical about too, but then again, they're the ones making the game, not me, so they're probably on top of every situation by now, revealing all these details with at least a year to go before launch. Yes, you heard that right, at least a year: "It's probably not going to come out until then end of 2008," adding that it'll be a year before more details on the game are disclosed, placing the release date somewhere in the middle of 2008 I guess. Man, they sure are serious about this one! Oh well, I can't play MK II all my life. Boon, your biggest fan's keeping his fingers crossed with this one. Make it a good one. Thanks!
