Scanners seem to be getting more and more portable and mobile these days, and one of the latest (and best) examples of such a product comes from Visioneer, who's just introduced the Mobility, a cordless mobile scanner that works quite well even in the absence of a computer.

So, basically, what we're talking about here is a device capable of scanning a wide variety of media directly to an SD card or USB flash drive, without requiring a computer or even a power source in order to do so.

The color scanning device will work quite well with documents, photos, plastic ID cards and more into, but it only supports three specific output file formats, namely color PDF, black and white PDF or color JPEG.

Plus, as mentioned right from the start, the Mobility is truly portable, device, given the fact that it measures 2 x 2.75 x 11.5 inches and comes with its own rechargeable battery, as well as a handy carrying case.

We'll also have to point out that, as far as the variety of supported “scan-to” media is concerned, the Visioneer Mobility scanner is actually extremely versatile, given the fact that users can scan files directly to the flash memory of a mobile phone (via an appropriate cable), or upload scans directly to the web, should users decided to insert an Eye-fi card into the scanner's SD card slot.

John Capurso, vice president of marketing at Visioneer, had this to say about the company's new product: “You do not need any knowledge or training in document scanning to use this device. Once you cut the tether to the computer, you open up countless possibilities for mobile document applications. Once the smartphone and tablet become your document connection to the web or your enterprise, all the rules change for mobile scanning. Mobility is a game changer.”

After taking a look at its features, we'll have to say that the pricing of the Visioneer Mobility is quite a fair one, this thing being well worth the $199.99 the company's asking for it.
