Big promises from its developers

The gaming industry has fallen into some sort of cliche, as almost all of the releases put the player in the shoes of a good character that has to battle with the forces of evil and ultimately save their own hometown, country, or world.

Codemasters took that recipe and turned it 180 degrees, as it has placed the players of its Overlord game into the evil armor of a despotic ruler. Now, as it is preparing to launch not one but three more titles bearing the Overlord name, the Creative Director of Overlord II, the fully blown sequel, Lennart Sas, has talked with IGN about the improvements that it would receive as opposed to the first one.

He has emphasized the fact that the game will have a much greater impact on the players and how it will, on the whole, be “more epic” than the first one, through an even wider variety of environments to explore, the new features that will be implemented and the more polished story that will provide an important motivation to players.

“One of the key goals for the sequel was to make Overlord II more epic; this means bigger battles against organised enemy legions and war machines. The Tower from the original game has been replaced by a massive Hades-like Netherworld. Through a varied landscape ranging from the icy domain of Nordberg, to the Beaches of Everlight, the Mysterious Magic Sanctuaries and the Grim Wasteland (Ground Zero, where the Old Overlord's Tower detonated), the player will be taken to the Heartland of the Glorious Empire, where he'll unleash death and destruction on magnificent cities filled with palaces and temples.”

The first Overlord took gamers to a variety of different settings and was pretty impressive. With these new promises and given all of the screenshots we have received up until now, the sequel to this title is getting more and more interesting, as it approaches the release date. Looking forward to having some mischievous fun this Summer when all of the three Overlord-branded titles will appear.
