“It’s a business,” 77-year-old actor says of Hollywood

The Oscars 2014 nominations were announced the other day and, as it happens every year, they failed to please the majority of moviegoers and industry people out there. Actors believed to be strong contenders but left out were deemed “snubbed” and, among them, Robert Redford’s name was also heard.

Speaking with the media, the 77-year-old actor who got plenty of critical praise for his latest film, “All Is Lost,” says that he chooses not to focus on this, let alone consider it some sort of “snub.”

As he puts it, Hollywood “is what it is,” and that’s a business where, obviously, money makes everything happen. With his little project, money wasn’t a key element.

“It's a business and so when these films go to be voted on, usually they're heavily dependent on campaigns. In our case I think we suffered from little to no distribution. And so as a result, our distributors – I don't know why – they didn't want to spend the money, they were afraid, they were just incapable, I don't know,” Redford explains, as cited by Us Weekly.

“I'm not disturbed by it, I'm not upset by it because, like I said, it's a business,” the iconic actor continues.

He might be taking the high road on this issue, but his fans (and the fans of many other “snubbed” stars) aren’t as eager to do that, as their comments on various forums confirm.
