The Jelly Bean-based smartphone is already available for pre-order

Australian wireless carrier Optus has just announced the availability of its 4G network in new parts of the country, including Sydney, Perth and Newcastle.

Following this expansion, the 4G service will be pushed to Melbourne as well, starting with 15 September, 2012, the operator added.

Moreover, the company also announced the release of Samsung’s GALAXY S III 4G smartphone on its network, a device already available for pre-order on the Optus website.

In fact, the wireless services provider also noted that it would be the first in the country to add the new device to its offering.

The aforementioned network expansion includes the following enhancements: - Sydney: Optus 4G coverage stretches from Bondi in the East to Newington in the West and from La Perouse in the South to Dee Why in the North.

- Perth: Optus 4G coverage stretches from Perth Airport in the East to City Beach in the West and from Como in the South to Innaloo in the North.

- Newcastle: Optus 4G coverage is available across Newcastle, as well as in Port Stephens, the Hunter Valley and Lake Macquarie areas.

- Melbourne: From September 15th 2012 Optus 4G coverage in Melbourne will stretch from Blackburn in the East to St Albans in the West and from Brighton in the South to Fawkner in the North.

Packing a 4.8″ HD Super AMOLED Display with Gorilla Glass 2, 16GB of onboard storage with support for MicroSD cards of up to 64GB and an 8MP photo snapper on the back (plus a 1.9MP camera on the front), Galaxy S III 4G is said to be the most powerful handset from Samsung.

The smartphone offers full 1080p video recording at 30 fps, along with support for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, HSPA+ / LTE capabilities, as well as all the features and capabilities that the Android Jelly Bean platform has to offer.

The device will go up for sale with for $0 upfront (Min. total cost is $1920) on the carrier’s $80 Optus Plan (as well as on the $80 Business Complete Plan), which includes 2GB of monthly data.

However, users will also be able to purchase the new Android smartphone on other plans from Optus, with monthly handset repayments that go up to $19 on a $35 per month contract.

Galaxy S III 4G is up for reservations on the carrier's website via this link. All users who pre-order the handset by 17 September, 2012 will have the opportunity to receive their device around 20 September, 2012, Optus added.
