Chinese OEM Oppo recently launched its latest mid-range Android smartphone, the Neo 5 (2015), in India.

The smartphone was officially unveiled earlier this month in China, but now customers in India can get it too.

Speaking of which, those who want a cheap mid-range Android smartphone can grab the Oppo Neo 5 (2015) for just Rs 9,990 outright, which is about $155 or €140.

According to a new report, the smartphone is available from all major retailers across the country and features a metal body.

The bad news is Oppo Neo 5 (2015) ships with Android 4.4 KitKat operating system right out of the box, and the Chinese company has yet to confirm whether or not a Lollipop upgrade will be available at some point.

Apart from that, Neo 5 (2015)'s specs are decent for a mid-range smartphone. It sports a 4.5-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display that supports 480 x 854 pixel resolution, which is kind of bad.

KitKat and a low resolution display make it less appealing

On the inside, the smartphone is equipped with a 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTel MT6582 processor, which is complemented by 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal memory.

The Neo 5 (2015) comes with microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB) and features dual-SIM support.

There's also a 8-megapixel camera on the back, which features autofocus, LED flash and video recording, as well as a secondary 2-megapixel camera in the front for video calls.

When it comes to connectivity, Oppo Neo 5 (2015) offers a wide range of options, including 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, microUSB 2.0, FM Radio and GPS with AGPS support.

“Apart from urban India, OPPO is focusing on rural markets as well as Indian market’s major population lies in rural areas which are a huge market in itself. OPPO Neo 5(2015) will target consumers who expect superior specifications at decent pricing.

“Out target is to reach out and cater to each segment in the market. We are excited to introduce Neo 5 for our young and energetic customers, a Smartphone series which has generated great response in the past,” said Mr. Tom Lu, CEO, OPPO Mobiles India.
