There is no word of when the phones will become available

Today, Chinese device manufacturer Oppo has taken the wraps off the Neo 5 (2015) and Neo 5s handsets. The first phone is an upgrade to the original Neo 5 that launched last year, while the Neo 5s is a more advanced affair arriving with more storage and a better processor.

The Oppo Neo 5 (2015) arrives with a 4.5-inch display and 480 x 854 pixel resolution, which is not very impressive especially with these 2K phones parading around.

The handset takes advantage of a MediaTek quad-core MT6582 SoC with dual-core Mali-400P2 graphics in combination with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage (expandable via microSD card up to 32GB capacity).

The Oppo Neo 5s offers the same 4.5-inch display with 480 x 854 pixel resolution with a Qualcomm 64-bit Snapdragon 410 processor under the hood, working in combination with Adreno 306 GPU, 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage (expandable up to 128GB). The Neo 5 doesn’t bundle LTE connectivity, but the Neo 5s does.

Oppo's new phones are too spectacular

The Neo 5 (2015) and Neo 5s both include an 8MP rear shooter with f/2.2 aperture lens and LED flash. This constitutes an upgrade from the original Neo 5’s 5MP main shooter.

While the two handsets don’t offer anything too stellar in terms of specs, there’s one aspect that might make you reconsider purchasing one of these devices.

The Neo 5s includes an eye protection system built into Oppo’s own ColorOS that allows the filtering of harmful rays. In turn, you’ll get to use the device for longer, without the display causing harm to your retina.

Oppo is releasing the two models with Android 4.4.2 KitKat out of the box, but given the fact that there are a lot of cheap phones running Android 5.x Lollipop from the get-go, some customers might not be willing to settle for a device running outdated software.

On the other hand, the company might be planning to deliver the Android 5.0 Lollipop update to these models at some point.

At the moment, we don’t know when Oppo plans to launch these products on the market or for how much, although the Oppo Neo 5s was spotted a while ago on the company’s official market with a price tag of €160 / $182.
