Opera Software has just announced the availability of Opera Mobile 11 update 4 for Android, which brings several stability and bug fixes.

The popular browser is now available on more than 3,000 devices and five platforms: Android, Symbian, MeeGo, Windows 7 desktop, and Maemo.

Currently, Opera Mobile 11 should work on any device with Android 1.6 or higher. However, users with older devices are recommended to use a different installer for this version, which requires a smaller amount of storage space.

Opera Software made available an ARMv5 update 4 specific build for those with Android 2.1 or earlier devices, but performance will not be as good as the build compiled for ARMv7 CPUs.

According to the developer, the performance differences between the two builds is about 20-30% on browser tests such as Sunspider and Peacekeeper, in the favor of ARMv7 build.

The complete changelog of the Opera Mobile 11 update 4 for Android is detailed below:

- Improved text rendering; - Fixed Opera being unresponsive after connection loss; - Fixed a number of device specific crashes reported via Market; - Introduced YouTube application support for devices that do not support Flash; - Flash not supported on Android 3.0 or Android 3.1 due to Google not releasing necessary platform code; - Fixed force close while in background related to audio controls (common on Atrix); - Permissions; - If using Titanium Backup and experiencing force close, update to latest Titanium to resolve.

Opera Mobile 11 for Android takes about 21MB storage, as well as additional space for the cache.

It is also worth mentioning that size of the installer may vary from mobile platform to mobile platform, as different compilers are used.

In this regard, those using Symbian smartphones will notice that Opera Mobile is only 7MB, while the Android .apk file is approximately 11MB.
