Turning tricks and crashing out

So, the demo for Pure is out and the game promises to offer players the chance to race powerful ATVs while also making pretty big jumps and doing a lot of over the top, crazy tricks. I hope that the guys at Black Rock Studio have done a good job on the game and I'm at the moment downloading the Xbox 360 demo, which is pretty big.

12:00. The tutorial comes first and it seems straight forward. One lap on a fairly short course with only two places where you can jump.

12:05. It gets more complicated as it teaches you to pre-load a jump by flicking the right stick on the controller and pull interesting moves by using the face buttons. X gives a boost to your speed but quickly drains the meter that powers your air tricks.

12:15. Tutorial done on the second try, now let's see what the demo level offers.

12:20. The track is very long. And the damn mud is put there to just get in your way and limit your speed. The course also has a lot of alternate roads which means that I probably won't get bored in the three laps I have to do.

12:25. For some weird reason, I always crash as I land a big air trick so I can't get my trick meter over the limit which separates the A and the B tricks. The idea is that once you pull enough A tricks, a meter loads and then you get to do B tricks. The next level is Y tricks and if you manage to do those successfully, then you can access other tricks with the Left and Right Buttons.

12:30. I apparently fail at ATV tricks. Weird, as I remember enjoying the Tony Hawk games, which are even more intensive when it comes to stringing combos and moves.

12:35. I have even managed to die by falling into a big pit. I will restart this...

12:45. My goal for the next fifteen minutes is to get to the level needed to pull a spectacular Y powered trick.

12:55. I did it. I pulled a Ruler, a Superman Seat Grab and even a special Shaolin Funk trick. Mission accomplished. The game looks and plays well but ATV stunt racing is just not my thing. I wouldn't buy this. The main idea I got out of this hour of play is that I need to fire up Tony Hawk again to do some rail riding.
