Student mods the Wiimote for his friend

Most of you probably see no reason why the Wiimote and Nunchuck should be merged into an one-handed controller and this means that you are one of the happy. But life was not as good with everybody, so there are people with certain handicaps that can't fully enjoy the so beloved gaming experience. And this is the reason this one-handed Nintendo Wii controller exists - to allow everybody to enjoy any of the console's games.

Ryan Culy is the one who decided to mod the controller for his friend who lost most of his left arm and he did quite a good job, becoming Ben Heck's "Pick of the Wii-k". Now, back to Ryan, this is what he did: he moved the Z and C buttons from the Nunchuck to the side of the Wii Remote and separated the joystick, turning the Wiimote into the primary controller, but with expanded support. So, basically, you strap the new controller to your arm, while the joystick can be put on a table, knee, or foot, allowing the player to control it with his or her elbow.

Thanks to Ryan, his friend can now enjoy most of the fun Wii Games and, hopefully, Nintendo together with the other gaming console developers will take note of this and offer a possibility for handicapped gamers to enjoy the experience like everybody else does.

As you can imagine, it was a really tough job - you can check it out for yourself by visiting Ryan's official website (for his one-handed Wiimote project, click on "Wii Controller" under "Projects"), there he explains all the work he did in order to create such a nice thing.
