Chinese device manufacturer Onda has become quite well known in the Chinese tablet market. Now, the device maker has rolled out the first tablet to feature an octa-core CPU bearing the Allwinner branding.

Meet the Onda V989 tablet, which is similar in size to the iPad and runs on an Allwinner A80-T processor.

As noted by Liliputing, the 9.7-inch slate boats a 2048 x 1536 pixel resolution, so it brings quite a beautiful display to the table. The Allwinner A80-T processor inside is actually a 4-core ARM Cortex-A15 combined with a 4 lower-power ARM Cortex-A7 CPU cores.

All is fitted with PowerVR G6230 graphics and 2GB of RAM. Onda also throws in two cameras (8MP on the back and 2MP in front), H.265/VPN video processing, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Miracast, and USB 3.0.

The chipset inside brings support for 4K video playback and it’s also important to note that the device runs Android 4.4 KitKat software out of the box.

The Onda V989 will launch for the affordable price of $177 / €129.

This is cheaper than the Coolpad Halo, a tablet that also comes equipped with an octa-core CPU, in the form of a 1.7GHz MediaTek M76592 processor with 2GB of RAM.

The Halo boasts only a 7-inch IPS OGS display with 1920 x 1200 pixels, but sells for a more expensive $300 / €219 price tag.
