After Xiaomi, it was the turn of Chinese manufacturer CoolPad to hold a press event during which it unveiled a new host of products, including a tablet and a smartwatch.

You might remember that this January Coolpad introduced what has been marketed as the world’s first true octa-core Android tablet, the Halo.

The device arrived with a 7-inch HD IPS OGS display and offered a competent resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels.

The life-source of this machine was a 1.7GHz octa-core MediaTek MT6592 processor paired with 2GB of RAM plus 700 MHz Mali 450-MP4 GPU. All backed up by 8GB of internal storage (which is of course expandable via microSD card).

Apparently, the slate was an instant success and CoolPad managed to sell 50,000 units in under 18 seconds, which is pretty impressive.

Now, building on the success of the first Halo, the company has taken the opportunity to unveil an updated version of the tablet, reports GizChina.

While the pricing has remained the same ($300 / €219), the tablet now gets a processor update, meaning we’re going to see a MediaTek MT6582T octa-core chip clocked at 2GHz instead of the initial 1.7GHz.

Furthermore, we’re seeing an increase in the internal storage department, which has been bumped from the insufficient 8GB to a more sensible 16GB. RAM stays the same, so customers will be getting the same 2GB, but based on the DDR3 technology, which will allow for increased speeds.

Anyway, like many device-maker sniffing out the trends in the tech market, CoolPad realized the wearable ecosystem is a lofty place to throw your bone at. Hence, the company is giving smartwatches a shot.

Their wearable offers basic functionality, and like most smartwatches out there, it has been designed to be a smartphone accessory. It provides the usual functions like providing you with notifications when you receive an SMS, let’s say.

Anyway, the new time-piece comes with a 1.25-inch display with 144 x 128 pixel matrix that pairs to your Android devices by virtue of Bluetooth.

CoolPad mentioned the smartwatch’s battery is capable of providing up to 4 days of normal usage and 8 days in standby mode.

Moreover, the smartwatch comes with IP54 certification, so it is dust protected and resistant against splash.

The smartwatch will sell for quite a low price, considering what we have seen on the market these days. Interested parties can grab theirs for $63 / €46 a pop, which a whole lot less compared to the $299 / €218 you have to pay for the Samsung Gear 2.
