After announcing the entry-level VG-120 model back at CES 2011, Olympus decided to offer users an even more affordable compact digital camera and introduced the VG-120 camera, targeting roughly the same market segment and coming at a price point even customers on a very tight budget will certainly find to be quite interesting.

As Olympus informs us, their pocket-sized point-and-shoot digital camera is built around a 12-megapixel sensor, accompanied by a 4x wide-angle zoom, as well as a Digital Image Stabilization system (designed to counter the effects of handshake and other movements) and a 2.7-inch LCD, for reviewing photos and videos.

The camera also records video in AVI format at 640 x 480 pixels resolution and relies heavily on the built-in Magic Art Filters in order to enable users to unleash their creative potential (or better said, add all sorts of effects to their photos right from the camera).

Additional features worth mentioning about Olympus' VG-110 entry-level digital camera include AF Tracking to capture fast moving subjects, Face Detection, an Intelligent Auto Mode and Perfect Fix In-Camera Editing for maximizing the images' level of quality, regardless of the environmental conditions existing when the picture was taken.

“With its 12-megapixel image sensor, 26mm 4x wide-angle zoom and slim body, the Olympus VG-110 provides the ultimate combination of value and functionality,” said Jennifer Schmell, product manager, Olympus Imaging America Inc, adding that “AF tracking makes it a breeze to capture images of a moving subject, while fun Magic Art Filters like Punk and Sparkle enable you to maximize your creativity.”

As mentioned right from the start, one of the VG-110's main selling points is actually represented by its very affordable price point, the compact digital camera being slated to hit the shelves by the end of February for around 89,99 US dollars (estimated street price).
