14 DAY TRIAL // Oksana Grigorieva, Mel Gibson’s ex-lover and the mother of his child, probably thought things couldn’t possibly get worse after she turned down a $15 million (€10.9 million) offer to settle the custody case out of court in 2011, and ended up getting just $750,000 (€545,217). She is now officially dirt poor.
Oksana, an actress and singer from Russia, who dated Mel right after his much-mediated divorce, has filed papers to say she’s bankrupt, deep in debt, and with just $10 (€7.27) to her name, TMZ reports.
In other words, the money she did get from the Hollywood actor and director in court as part of the settlement is now completely gone and she has no way to pay her debts.
TMZ has a breakdown on the exact figures that show just how dire her financial situation is.
“Oksana says the math tells the story – $48,000 [€34,893] in assets, $438,000 [€318,406] in debts. As for Oksana's expenses, she spends $90 [€65.4] a month on ‘Gofer Patrol.’ BTW her home security is less... $80 [€58.1] a month. Oksana – who is a singer – claims in the last 6 months she's only received $200 [€145.3] in royalties. She also lists works of art she painted at $500 [€363.5],” the report says.
Oksana’s biggest debt is represented by legal fees incurred during the custody battle with Mel. Celebrity gossip lovers might recall that the two duked it out in court and outside of it for their daughter Lucia, which is also when those very incriminating audios of Mel’s violent rages emerged online.
Because money was never an issue for Gibson, which meant that he could hire whatever top attorney he wanted and, most importantly, because Oksana thought she could take him to the cleaners in the custody battle, she hired and fired about 40 lawyers during the procedures.
She is now saying in court documents that she owes about $250,000 (€181,765) to 5 of these legal representatives.
“According to the court docs, Mel pays her $20,000 [€14,541] a month in child support for Lucia, and actor Timothy Dalton pays her $2,500 [€1,817] a month for their son, Alexander,” TMZ adds.
When the case was settled in court, rumor had it that Lucia, Mel’s daughter with Oksana, had been included in the same trust fund as his other 7 children, so she would be well provided for no matter what happened to her mother’s showbiz career.
