The owners of a HTC Desire smartphone on O2 UK's network should be able to enjoy an upgraded operating system on their devices these days, as the wireless carrier has just announced that it re-started pushing out the Android 2.2

software update for the high-end device.

It appears that the HTC Desire Android 2.2 update is here to stay at the moment, and that the issues that emerged with it a few weeks ago have been solved.

In early September, O2 started deploying the Android 2.2 Froyo software update for HTC Desire, but pulled if off soon after the initial roll-out, due to “potential freezing issues,” as Techradar notes in a recent article.

Here's what the wireless carrier stated at that time: “While we’re pleased that so many of you have been able to download it successfully and are enjoying the benefits of 2.2, we have seen that a small number of people are having problems installing the update.”

“While we check out these issues we’re putting the 2.2 update on hold. We’ll update you as soon as possible and would like to thank our HTC Desire customers for their patience.”

O2 needed about three weeks to find and resolve the issues with this software update, but it seems that things have been brought to the right track in the end.

The new Android 2.2 Froyo software update should arrive on HTC Desire at O2 over the air, and users might consider downloading it when in a Wi-Fi hotspot.

No info on how long it would take for O2 to send the solution to its users emerged for the time being, but we should expect for the entire process to be over in about a week or two.

For those out of the loop, we should note that the new OS flavor should bring some nice enhancements to HTC Desire, including performance improvements and new features.

Android 2.2 Froyo should also come with HD video recording and with Adobe's Flash Player 10.1 into the mix, as well as with a series of other improvements.
