Espoo, Finland-based mobile phone maker Nokia is set to unveil some of its plans regarding new Symbian smartphones as soon as next week, during a press event that would be hold on April 12th.

The event should take place in London on Tuesday, the same day that HTC is holding a press conference in London.

The invite that Nokia sent out to the media reads: “Discover what's new with Symbian smartphones,” which would suggest that new devices might be brought to the spotlight at that time.

Undoubtedly, Nokia does need to come up with new smartphones fast, since it has been losing market share for quite some time. On the other hand, the handset vendor might unveil new OS enhancements at the said event.

Back in February, the company announced that it was adopting Microsoft's Windows Phone operating system for its smartphones, a move that should help it attract more users on its side.

However, the company would still aim at selling a large volume of Symbian-based smartphones, but did not launch a new one since September last year.

Even so, the company promised new, highly appealing Symbian devices for the near future, and some of them already leaked into the wild, expected to land on shelves sometime before the end of this year.

Among them, we can count the long-rumored Nokia X7, which was said to come with enhanced multimedia features, including four speakers, placed on its front in each of the corners.

Recently, another new Symbian device from the company emerged, the Nokia T7-00, which was spotted in China with the Nseries logo on the back, and which might become available in the country on China Mobile's airwaves.

Moreover, a Nokia E6-00 made it into the wild a few times before, with a candybar form factor, and a Touch and Type design, with a QWERTY keyboard on it. A successor to the Nokia N8 was spotted as well, dubbed N8-01.

These devices should be accompanied by a flurry of other handsets from the company, rumor has it. According to reports, Nokia might launch 12 smartphones in 2011. A total of 40 mobile phones might emerge from the company before this year is over.
