14 DAY TRIAL // According to the latest news on the Internet, Finnish company Nokia, the world's largest mobile phone maker, is getting ready to come to the market with a handset that will include a 12-megapixel photo snapper. Such devices have been already announced by companies like Sony Ericsson, Samsung or LG, and it seems that Nokia too will come aboard the 12MP ship.
Moreover, the reports also point towards the end of 2009 as the possible time frame when the company will make the handset official, while suggesting that it might become available for purchase on the market as soon as next year. It seems that said device is quite close to becoming reality, at least this is what an article on PhoneReport says, quoting sources from both the phone maker and Carl Zeiss (the company that supplies the optics for Nokia's devices).
The 12MP behemoth expected to first reach the market is the Samsung Pixon12, which rumors say should become available sometime in August, while the second one should be the Sony Ericsson Satio (also known as Idou), expected to become available for purchase sometime in the fourth quarter of the ongoing year.
Given the fact that Nokia already has a series of handsets that sport 3x optical zoom on the market, such as the N93 / N93i, which includes a 3.2-megapixel photo snapper, rumors suggest that the upcoming 12MP camera phone might sport the same feature. In case this proves true, the Nokia handset would offer better performance compared to Pixon12 and Satio, which only come with digital zoom.
Currently, Nokia has an 8-megapixel camera phone on the market, the N86 8MP, so a handset with a higher-quality camera could be possible. Even so, the Nokia 12MP mobile phone remains only on the rumor side, as there are no further details on it or official words from the Finnish mobile phone maker.
