Finnish mobile phone maker Nokia has recently announced via its Nokia Beta Labs Blog that a new flavor of Ovi Contacts is now available for the owners of S60 5th Ed and 3rd Ed FP2 devices. According to the development team, the new updates made to the Ovi Contacts client are mainly based on users' feedback, and there are a series of new features that users will be able to enjoy, as well as a series of other improvements.

The updated client contains some new features like: file transfer and improved compression. File transfer obviously is a nice feature if you need to quickly beam up your newly taken photo to your friend and you don't want to be restricted by the size of the photo (as in, you can transfer bigger files than before). And our new compression will save you a bit of costs in terms of battery consumption and data consumption. We've measured the data consumption to be about 60% less of what it was with the previous version,” a post on Nokia Beta Labs Blog states.

Among the other improvements the new Ovi Contacts client comes around with, we can count an enhanced user experience, which has been requested by those who already tried out the solution. “You'll notice that in the Contacts tab, there are now three quick buttons to see a friend's profile (or your own), start a chat, and add friends,” the post states.

The older versions of Ovi Contacts have been pulled off the Nokia Beta Labs site, something that should make the download of the new flavor a much easier task. However, the older client versions are also available for access to users, through hitting this link on their mobile phones. As it always happens when it dealing with updates that come via Nokia Beta Labs, those of you who try out the new version of the client should provide some feedback so as the team can continue adding improvements to the software solutions available.
