Leading telecommunications infrastructure provider Nokia Siemens Networks announced on Tuesday that it was selected as the exclusive pan-India supplier for Unitech Wireless. According to the company, it will help the carrier deploy and manage its GPRS core network, based on a three-year agreement. Nokia Siemens Networks solutions are expected to enable Unitech Wireless to deliver superior quality voice and high speed mobile data services to its users right from the beginning.

“Get technology, costs and speed that is better than competition and get the most competent partner to manage these for us. Invest what we save in building our brand by creating better products and better customer service and become the preferred SIM. This is our model, and we found Nokia Siemens Networks a perfect fit,” said Stein-Erik Vellan, managing director, Unitech Wireless.

According to the agreement between the two companies, the infrastructure vendor is to deliver an entire range of services, including network implementation and network operations, as well as care-related ones. Nokia Siemens Networks is to manage the day-to-day operations of the pan-Indian GPRS network, while also offering increased network efficiency, along with flexibility in organization, transparency and cost reductions.

“The mobile data surge is happening now,” added Urs Pennanen, head of India region at Nokia Siemens Networks. “Gearing up for launch by end of this year, our solution will enable Unitech Wireless to meet the demands of increased user traffic – both from a service and cost point of view. For us this partnership is especially significant since it proves we are the clear number 1 for packet core implementations in the Indian market.”

According to Nokia Siemens Networks, it will proceed with the implementation of IP/Multi Protocol Layer Switching (MPLS) technology, and it will also develop an end-to-end packet core network that should deliver a high level of performance. The monitoring, management and optimization of the network for high speed data services support will be ensured by the NetAct network management system, in combination with an online and offline mediation system.
