Worldwide leading infrastructure provider Nokia Siemens Networks announced today that its Board of Directors appointed Rajeev Suri as the company's Chief Executive Officer, effective October 1, 2009. The company also announced that Suri would be supported until November 1 by the current CEO, Simon Beresford-Wylie, who will leave the Nokia Group Executive Board on September 30, 2009.

“I am extremely pleased to announce Rajeev's appointment as Chief Executive Officer of Nokia Siemens Networks,” said Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo, Nokia CEO and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Nokia Siemens Networks. “We began a comprehensive succession process when Simon shared his desire to depart at the appropriate time. That process has made it clear that Rajeev brings the right values, experience and industry expertise to take Nokia Siemens Networks forward.”

Currently, Suri, 41, is in charge with the company's Services business and has an experience of 20 years in the telecommunications area. According to the infrastructure provider, he had different roles within Nokia Siemens Networks, including leading of the Asia-Pacific region or managing products. He worked in a variety of locations around the world, such as India, Finland, the United Kingdom, West Africa and Singapore.

Beresford-Wylie has been with Nokia since 1998 and also held different positions within the company in Asia and Europe. He was appointed to lead Nokia's infrastructure business back in February 2005. According to Nokia, he is one of the creators of Nokia Siemens Networks, and has been a CEO since the company started its operations on April 1, 2007.

“Simon leaves with our deep appreciation for completing the successful integration of Nokia Siemens Networks,” said Rudi Lamprecht, vice chairman of the Board of Directors of Nokia Siemens Networks. “Rajeev takes on the role of CEO as a proven leader who has most recently demonstrated his abilities with the transformation of Nokia Siemens Networks' Services business. His deep experience in customer-facing and product-related roles makes him an ideal leader for the company.”
