According to the latest news around the Internet, Finnish mobile phone maker Nokia is set to deliver its Maemo 5-based Internet Tablet, the Nokia N900, to retailers in the United States as soon as September 27. In case all goes according to plans, we might expect the device to become available for purchase on the US market at the beginning of October.

The new handheld, notes The Nokia Blog, should come to shelves in the country at a price tag of $649 USD. The price might seem quite leveraged to some, yet you should keep in mind that it always happens this way with brand new devices. One way or another, some early adopters will certainly jump on the Internet Tablet that features support for T-Mobile's 3G network.

Hopefully, this pans out and the N900 will come to the US distribution channels just in time. As many of you might already know, Nokia managed to hit its deadline with the launch of Nokia N97 NAM and 5800 NAM, though it has delayed the release of Nokia N86 NAM through retailers on the US market for quite some time now.

One other thing that should be interesting to watch is whether we'll see the N900 available via a specific carrier in the US as well. the Internet Tablet comes with support for T-Mobile's airwaves, yet some rumors that cycled around the web recently pointed towards a variant that would include support for AT&T's network too. Nokia stated loud and clear that no such announcement had been made, yet hasn't said whether the rumors were false or not.

It is also known that the user interface of N900 and its customization features have been subject to a series of rumors lately, some of which suggested that the Maemo 5 on the handset won't allow for carrier customizations. As Nokia denied these sayings, it remains to be seen how the device will appeal to carriers around the world. Stay tuned to learn when the N900 comes to shelves in the US.
