At least in some markets

Finnish mobile phone maker Nokia might have just delayed the launch of its new Maemo 5-based handset, the Nokia N900. The Internet Tablet was expected to be launched by the end of October, and now it seems that it will only come in November, but that might be only the best case scenario. The November shipping date can be seen on Nokia UK's online store, and has been also unveiled by Peter Schneider, head of Maemo Marketing, Nokia Corporation.

“The Nokia N900 is a great example of what we and the open source community have been able to achieve with Maemo software. We are working closely with open source developers and for example, at the Maemo Summit in October, we loaned 300 pre-production units to get more feedback from the community. This feedback is extremely important to us and as such we also want to provide the best user experience with the Nokia N900. We expect it to start shipping during November 2009,” is what Schneider states in a post on talk.maemo.

Previously, the high-end Maemo 5-based device was reported to come to the market at the end of October, and the Nokia US website shows this time frame as the expected availability window. Those who live in the UK and would like to pre-order the handset from Nokia will find the “Tentative delivery date: November 2009” notice on the website, which one should agree that sounds a little discouraging.

The Nokia N900, as many of you might already know, will come to the market with a series of very attractive capabilities, including a 3.5-inch touchscreen display that boasts a 800 x 480 pixel resolution, as well as a 5-megapixel photo snapper with dual LED flash, GPS receiver, TV out, support for various email and messaging features, HTML browser, Bluetooth 2.1, Wi-Fi, Micro-USB, a sliding QWERTY keyboard, 32 GB of internal memory, and a microSD memory card slot that supports up to 16 GB of additional storage.
