Today, Finnish mobile phone maker Nokia has announced the upcoming availability of its highly-anticipated Nokia N8 device on the market in the UK, unveiling the fact that it would have the smartphone available online starting with October 15th.

The leading handset vendor also announced that the new device would be available for immediate delivery if purchased from its online store.

The price tag for this device has been set at £429 with no service commitment included, but users can also purchase it with contract agreements, for £30 per month.

On top of that, Nokia went official with plans to have the smartphone available via various retailers and wireless carriers in the country starting with October 22nd.

The Nokia N8 would land at Carphone Warehouse, O2, Orange, Phones4u, T-Mobile, Tesco Phone Shops, Three Mobile, Virgin Mobile and Vodafone on that day, the company announced.

Some of the main features of the new device include:

- New and exclusive Ovi apps including X Factor and LoveFilm - 12 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics and Xenon flash - Record HD quality videos; edit using a unique, built-in editing suite and play-back with Dolby Digital Plus surround sound - Connect to your social networks and view live feeds from Facebook and Twitter in a single app directly, via up to three personalised home screens - Flick scrolling and pinch-to-zoom, plus a faster and more responsive user interface. According to the mobile phone maker, the new Nokia N8, which runs under the Symbian^3 operating system, should land on shelves with brand new, exclusive content from the Ovi Store.

Users would be able to enjoy BBC iPlayer on Nokia N8, an application specifically designed for the smartphone, and which comes with the same functionality as the online version of BBC iPlayer sports.

“The Nokia N8 is one of the most innovative phones of 2010, packed with market leading features, including the best picture and video capability available on a smartphone,” Sami Lehtinen, Group Manager, Nokia UK, said.

“The reaction to the Nokia N8 continues to be phenomenal and, after all the build up, it is great to be getting it into the hands of customers.”
