Nokia, the worldwide leading mobile phone maker, has announced today that the Nokia Music Store is now live in Austria and in Switzerland. The Nokia Music Store is able to bring to users five million tracks from known artists, independent labels, and up-and-coming local acts, while offering consumers a simple way to enjoy the songs directly on their Nokia mobile phone or on the personal computer.

“With the launch of the Nokia Music Store, Nokia aims to make available to all Austrian and Swiss users of all ages, the music that they want at any moment they want, with all the facilities that mobility permits nowadays,” says Michael Lachsteiner, music service manager, Nokia Austria.

“The Nokia Music Store is a user-friendly innovation of the market leader. From this partnership the music industry expects a boost in the download segment - in and outside of Austria and Switzerland,” comments Hannes Eder, managing director, Universal Music Austria.

Music enthusiasts are enabled to access the Nokia Music Store with a single account, either from their computer or via their optimized Nokia device like the Nokia 5800 Xpress Music. Users will be able to browse for new music content, search favorite artists or get recommendations, while also being enabled to create wish lists so that they could purchase the songs later.

In addition, they can also immediately acquire and download the track directly to their handset, so that they won't have to download it again on their computer. All songs, albums and artists available at the Nokia Music store can be easily accessed directly from the palm of their hand. Of course, those with compatible devices can also transfer songs from their desktop computer onto the handset.

As Ivo Sacci, managing director at Universal Music Switzerland and president of IFPI Switzerland said, “The Nokia Music Store will support growth in the digital music market.”

In Austria, the cost for individual tracks will be of 1.00 Euro per track, while an entire album would cost 10.00 Euros. In Switzerland, an individual track will be 1.50 CHF, while an album will cost 15.00 CHF. The Nokia Music Store offers users a variety of payment options, which includes credit cards, as well as pre-paid vouchers.
