From designer Jeremy Innes-Hopkins

Today's mobile phones offer much more options, features and capabilities than the term 'phone' can cover. Things moved past the idea of a device enabling users to make calls when not at home. Whether it involves capturing photos or videos, browsing the Internet, editing documents, listening to music or providing other devices with 3G connectivity via hotspot features, current handsets have it. However, there are aspects that some are more interested in when it comes to the phone they are holding, such as the exterior design of the device, and Jeremy Innes-Hopkins is one of them.

The photos attached to this article offer info on one of Jeremy's ideas (more can be seen here), called the Nokia Kinetic concept. The most interesting part of the story might not be the curved base the Kinetic concept sports, but the fact that the phone would gradually sit upright to notify its owner on the arrival of a new message or on an incoming call. Moreover, it seems that, in case one would like to dismiss the call, one would be able to do so by gently tapping the device, which would lie back down again.

Of course, this is only a concept, and chances for it to become reality are quite slim, but the idea of having an electromagnet in the base section so as to make the device sit upright sounds as appealing as it can be. As one can easily imagine, hardware specifications are out of discussion at this moment, and the main focus should be on the looks of the Nokia Kinetic concept from designer Jeremy Innes-Hopkins, which seem to be complement by a touchscreen interface.

This is not the first mobile phone concept one designer or another comes up with, nor the last idea, that's for sure. However, until mobile phone makers around the world start considering the development of such futuristic devices, we can only dream at the day when one such Nokia Kinetic would stand on our desktops while ringing up.
