Only a concept for the time being

Razorfish, a company already known for the touch experiences it is capable of building, has just showcased a new concept, aimed at helping those in search for a mobile phone to enjoy an interactive multi-touch experience: Razorfone. Developed by their Emerging Experiences team, the new conceptual approach towards the purchase of a new handset and all the related services and accessories can turn from a sometimes complex and rather boring experience into something quite attractive. A quick look at the video embedded at the bottom of this article will show you what they mean by an “immersive interactive experience” that Razorfone can deliver.

The new conceptual approach towards the retail experience of mobile phones has been built on top of Windows 7’s multi-touch support, combined with the Windows Presentation Foundation. As Long Zheng notes on his blog, Razorfone seems to be one of the best implementations of the aforementioned combination that has emerged into the wild until now. The best part of the whole concept is the fact that one can enjoy the possibility to choose all the accessories, plans, services, and the rest upon the purchase of a phone from a single place, as it can offer assistance through the entire acquisition process.

“The Razorfone solution is focused around providing an experience where customers can learn about wireless products. Phone and netbook features and associated wireless plans are presented in a rich interactive environment. Accessories are presented to the customer as a cross-sell opportunity. The use of 3D allows for customers to view their device in any color and from any angle, regardless of availability of the physical device within the retail store. The customer can validate the wireless coverage where they live, work and play through the use of the interactive coverage map using simple pan and zoom gestures. Customers can personalize their device after purchase with ringtones, games and applications through the use of QR technology, increasing sales and helping to eliminate buyers remorse,” the company states.

Razorfish also notes that this experience can prove helpful not only to customers, but to the store associates too. Users will receive all the necessary information on handsets through Razorfone, enabling them to take the appropriate decision according to their needs or likes, while “the store associates can focus on being brand ambassadors.” Watch the video below to make an idea of what the entire concept is all about.
