A new application are now available for download for users of mobile phones from Nokia, namely the Nokia Connectivity Analyzer, a utility that should help users easily diagnose network connections, and the Nokia Situations, aimed at enabling users to set the manner in which the handset would act in various situations.

The new Nokia Connectivity Analyzer was made available for download over at Nokia Beta Labs, with three kinds of utilities aimed at offering users the possibility to easily diagnose WLAN or Packet Data connections.

With the new software solution users would have the Connectivity Diagnostics Test, with can easily test a connection, and Connection Observer and Ping Utility for advanced users, aimed at analyzing WLAN networks and at performing ICMP-Echo ping tests.

Here's what Nokia Beta Labs says on these features:

Connectivity Diagnostics Test - With a couple of clicks the application connects to a selected access point and performs a diagnostics test. In case of any problems with the connectivity, you are informed about it with troubleshooting tips.

Connection Observer - This graphical presentation of WLAN and packet data connectivity and events releated to it helps you to analyze WLAN networks and how roaming is performed e.g. when using VoIP. The gathered data can be stored into a .csv file for further analysis. More advanced users and application developers can also capture the IP traffic of the device into a pcap file.

Ping Utility - This utility helps you to perform ICMP-Echo ping tests to a given hostname or IP address. With this feature it is easy to test IP connection to a selected destination.

As for the second application released form Nokia, it would enable users to pre-set the manner in which the handset would behave in certain situations, including 'In a meeting', 'Sleeping', or 'Playing with the kids'.

According to the development team, the application would automatically detect the situation, based on time, day, location, available networks, and adapt to it in accordance to one's preferences.

“Before we further develop this kind of capability, we want to hear from you about the concept. So instead of getting into the details of the application itself, think about how you would like your phone to behave in different contexts. Over the coming weeks we will have some questions and polls to dig into the topic more,” the guys over at Nokia Beta Labs note.

Additional info on these applications can be found on the Nokia Beta Labs website, as well as in the video embedded below, for Nokia Situations.
