Nokia Bubbles is a new application now available for download for Symbian^3 handsets from the Finnish handset vendor, aimed at offering users the possibility to unlock their devices in a more fun and efficient manner.

The app would enable users to take shortcuts to various things on their devices. When the device is in sleep mode, pressing the “Apps” key will initiate Bubbles. To perform a certain action, one would have to drag a bubble to an available drop point.

Of course, this is not a new concept, but it does seem to be a fun way to unlock the phone, that's for sure, especially since it replaces the standard black screen with clock and unlock button, and since it also offers fast access to various functions of the handset.

Some of the main actions that bubbles would support include:

Unlock the phone View new messages View/Respond to missed calls Control the music player Control the FM radio Change profile (profile timing also supported) Call/Message your three best friends Activate the backlight to use as a flashlight Show your current location using Ovi Maps Change the background of the Bubbles screen Display when battery needs charging Display statistics about bubble speed and distance (just for fun)

“When I invented the bubbles concept (with my friend Sami) the idea was to have a fun way to unlock the phone. After some thinking it was obvious that bubbles can be used for many other purposes and at the same time have some fun things on your screen,” Pauli Asikainen notes on the Nokia Beta Labs.

One of the first new features added into the mix was to through bubbles around, and now they can be used to enable fast access to various actions. You can learn some more info on the new mobile application through the video embedded below.

Users should also consider providing the development team with feedback on their experience with the software, so that the app would get polished.
