Announced earlier this year as one of the 62xx series of handsets, Nokia has initiated shipments of its highest-end slider, the 6280. Despite the fact that it's a 3G phone, and 3G phones have a reputation for being rather large Nokia's 6280 is the smallest of the three 62xx sliders (6270, 6111 and 6280).

The 6280 has an array of features such as a dual camera setup for video calls and a high resolution screen. The screen's excellent color depth helps create a solid first impression.

The tri-band GSM handset has support for GPRS/EDGE and 3G and is equipped with the first 262K color screen in a Nokia handset to feature a QVGA resolution of 240 x 320 pixels. Another first in the 6280 is its integration of dual camera, a back-mounted 2 Megapixel camera is used in conjunction with a front-mounted 0.3 MP camera. With up to 74 MB of user available memory, the 6280 takes advantage of the full service of Nokia's messaging with support for SMS, MMS, as well as an e-mail client supporting POP3/IMAP4/SMTP protocols.

Additionally, the 6280 also offers Nokia's Xpress audio messaging service and support for Push-To-Talk. Nokia 6280 integrates a stereo FM radio with support for Visual Radio and a music player with stereo audio. It has Bluetooth, Infrared connectivity and USB 2.0.

Measuring 115 g and 100 x 46 x 21 mm, the 6280 offers a talk time of up to 3 hours and up to 250 hours when on GSM; up to 2.5 hours and up 200 hours, respectively, when on WCDMA.

The phone is now shipping in Europe for about ?375 EUR before subsidies or taxes.
