Everything but a phone, in your pocket

The trend in technology nowadays is to fit everything you need in a single device. That is also what Asus has tried to do with MyPal A636. The situation with this PDA is odd. Although it will be launched this week, MyPal A636 has already won the award for "Best Choice for a Pocket PC" at Comdex trade show in Taiwan, earlier this year.

There might be an explanation for this situation. Sometimes companies develop products that aren't exactly ready to be released when major trade shows like Comdex take place. Also, if the products are kept secret, the companies will miss the opportunity to get an award. But it seems that Asus didn't miss that occasion.

Asus MyPal A636 features an Intel XScale processor that runs at 416 MHz, 64 MB of RAM and 128 MB of Flash ROM. The device has a 3.5" QVGA screen with a 240 X 320 resolution and has also an SD slot for additional memory cards. MyPal will feature also Microsoft's latest mobile OS, Windows Mobile 5.0. The connectivity area is complete, featuring Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. A special little detail of MyPal A636 is GPS (Global Positioning System). The only things that this device is missing are the phone capabilities.

Amazing is the fact that MyPal A636 sports a 44 hour battery life (with standard usage), which is surprising for a PDA. Asus claims that the battery can last for up to 18 hours of media playback and 7.5 hours of GPS usage. The estimated price for a MyPal A636 is 349 GPB.
