Sprint removed the release notes from its website

Wireless carrier Sprint either got confused and accidentally published on its website the release notes for the next iteration of Palm Pre's operating system, webOS 1.2, or the update needs a few more touches, and the operator decided to pull the changelog off its website, but, one way or the other, it seems that Palm Pre users will have to wait a little longer before the new OS flavor comes to them.

As reported before, the webOS 1.2 update for the Palm device has made an accidental appearance into the wild, when a Pre owner needed to use the webOSDoctor to reset the handset and the new OS version was downloaded and installed. Palm removed the software from its website soon after, yet Sprint, the carrier that has exclusivity on the Pre, published the release notes for the update on its site.

Now, both the webOS 1.2 and its changelog are no where to be found, although Sprint stated that the upgrade was to land on September 8. The one thing that might explain all this confusion would be that the new OS version needed a few more touches before coming to the Palm Pre users, and that both Palm and Sprint decided to delay its release.

Among the things that could be included in the webOS 1.2 would be compatibility with Apple's iTunes, as the Cupertino-based company has just broken it with the release of iTunes 9. Palm and Apple already have a history of playing cat and mouse with the iTunes syncing capabilities of the Pre, and another round seems to be on its way.

One way or the other, neither Sprint nor Palm have announced anything official on the webOS 1.2, although some rumors suggest the update should come to the Palm Pre shortly. Given the fact that the software was to include a wide range of fixes and improvements, enthusiasts are certainly waiting for it to become available, and both companies might indeed speed up its release.
