BioShock is ready to make the move from the underwater Rapture to the flying Columbia but it seems that the series will not be making the transition from home console to the cinema anytime soon.

Speaking to IndustryGamers Ken Levine, the man leading Irrational Games as they develop Infinite, said, “We got very close to having it get made - we had a deal in place and a director. But for us there's no burning to have a movie made just to get it made.”

He added, “For us and for Take-Two, it's really got to be something that will a) give the fans something that they want, and b) for those who don't know BioShock, really introduce them to something that is consistent with the game, and is it going to be a good representation of the game.”

Levine says that despite the very different natures of video games and movies in the case of BioShock the differences from the existing two titles need to be small so that anyone who enjoys the movie can make the transition to the games without any problems.

Ever since the first BioShock was launched rumors began about a big screen adaptation, with Gore Verbisnki, who is the director of Pirates of the Carribean, set to direct at the time.

Since then a number of problems linked to the production process has meant that the project does not yet have an attached director or a finished script.

The movie will likely be linked to Rapture and will mix straight up action with the philosophy of Andrew Ryan and how it shaped the city that he built.

BioShock Infinite takes place on the flying Columbia and the player will become a detective that needs to find and save a girl named Elizabeth, which has a number of supernatural powers, including the ability to open rifts to alternate realities.
