Video game hardware manufacturer and game publisher Nintendo of America has announced that June 25 of this year will be named Nintendo 3DS StreetPass Day, designed to show off the connectivity features of the new handheld and to mark the launch of the Meetup Everywhere community.

The company is urging all Nintendo 3DS users in the United States to set up their own StreetPass powered meetings on June 25, make new friends and exchange content through the handheld in order to see how the service works and became familiar with its advantages.

Meetup Everywhere is designed to deliver an easy-to-use and free online platform that allows Nintendo 3DS gamers to organize themselves around shared interests and create real life meetings that allows them to know each other and use the StreetPass feature.

The StreetPass service allows gamers to share Mii characters, stats for the video game they play and certain characters included in games.

The StreetPass can be configured to work at all times and signal a gamer when someone that also uses it is in the same location.

It's likely that the Nintendo move to show off the StreetPass service is a way of promoting the 3DS handheld as a whole and to make it more attractive to players who value mobility and social features.

The Nintendo 3DS launched in the United States and in Europe late in March of the year and the sales numbers posted for the first few days were quite impressive, although a little less than those of the older DS model.

Since then, the Nintendo 3DS has slowed down significantly on the all important United States market, mainly because the company has failed to deliver high-profile games that utilize the main features of the device.

Nintendo is expected to show off more titles at the upcoming E3 trade show and the company will try to boost sales in the second half of the year.
